Puke boat

Lance Baker, co-angler of pro Destin Demarion, copped a serious case of sea sickness this morning, not long after the takeoff. Baker, of Huxley, Iowa, had never encountered the rolling waves of Lake Erie before this trip.

“It’s the worse feeling I’ve ever had in my life,” he said. “All I did was lay flat on my stomach on the back deck and puke.”

He did that for 3 1/2 hours until finally giving it up. By then the Dramamine pills and patches failed to work.

“I wanted him to be able to catch his limit,” said Baker. “But he was a fantastic partner.”

"He gets a lot of credit and thanks from me for giving up one-half of his entire day to come back to shore.”

Demarion, of Erie, Pa., is used to it. He’s a guide on the eastern side of Erie.

Baker took time to recover and then joined his partner at the scales, which open one hour prior to weigh-in. His Day 1 weight was 19-3.
