On Lake St. Clair, it’s turning out to be a dreary morning all around, especially for tournament leader Joe Balog.
Balog is just outside the launch site where he planned to begin his fishing day. Now, he’s got outboard motor problems. He’s going nowhere.
He’s just called Senior Tournament Manager Chris Bowes to summon the service crew in the hopes the day can be salvaged. These guys are the best and hopefully they’ll have him back up and running in no time.
There’s potentially an interesting story developing here. Until now the top performers have fished Lake Erie exclusively, including Balog. Some are in route there now. So whether or not Balog chooses to make the run is questionable. Depending on how far he’s been traveling that trip might be a bust. He might not have the time to get there, fish and then turn around and get back in time.
We’re not trying to read tea leaves here because Balog is among the top anglers on Lake Erie and St. Clair. But this scenario might open the door for others to come in. And take over the lead.
