Recent rains have sent turbid plumes into Norfork Lake and with a forecast calling for more precipitation, the impacts will continue through the tournament. Muddy water is nothing new for the Ozarks region, but concentrated inflows plus rising water will require adjustments.
Lower visibility shrinks the strike zone, as fish respond more to close range vibrations and brief glimpses. Such conditions also tend to find more fish moving extremely shallow where they have a better opportunity to pin their meals against the bank. Tactical options include bolder colors, larger profiles and rattling baits.
Along with decreased visibility, heavy rains also present navigational considerations, as runoff pulls dead wood into the lake. From sticks and twigs, to sizable logs and limbs, anglers will find numerous obstructions floating throughout the lake. Alertness is the key to avoiding potentially damaging collisions.
