SEVIIN GSW Series saltwater spinning reels are precisely designed and crafted to elevate the saltwater fishing experience.
The ocean can be a brutal place. Corrosive salt, wind, waves, sun, and surf place extreme demands on anglers and their gear. Then there’s the fish themselves. Whatever the target species, they’re all built for survival in an unforgiving environment. That means any fish a saltwater angler drives their hooks into is not coming to the net or gaff without a spirited fight.
Backed by seven decades of design and manufacturing expertise, industry-leading customer service, and unbroken private ownership by the Schluter family dating back to 1977, SEVIIN reels are meticulously engineered and purpose-built to help anglers conquer every species on every piece of water on the planet – including its seven seas.
A significant offering in SEVIIN’s inaugural product launch for 2024, the GSW Series encompasses four exceptionally smooth, powerful, and reliable saltwater spinning reels, precisely designed and crafted to elevate the saltwater fishing experience.
“Our new GSW was designed from an entirely blank slate with the goal of creating a strong and powerful family of saltwater spinning reels that deliver uncompromising performance and reliability with exterior design aesthetics that look like nothing else on the market,” says SEVIIN Reels Product Manager, Robert Woods.
Available in versatile 3000, 4000, 6000, and 8000 sizes, GSW reels are sealed with fully gasketed side plates and blade seals on the spool shaft to lock out corrosive salt spray while supporting regular freshwater rinsing after use. Such protection ensures GSW’s 6 + 1 shielded stainless-steel bearing system, powerful multi-stack carbon fiber drag / stainless-steel drag components, and precision-hobbed hard-brass pinion and die-cast drive gear perform smoothly and flawlessly during every cast, retrieve, and fight.
GSW Series Saltwater Spinning Reels are designed and crafted with strong, rigid, lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy bodies and side covers. Spools are skeletonized, forged aluminum for maximum strength without added weight and include a braid band to eliminate line slip. Custom-designed aluminum handles feature an oversized power knob or paddle (depending on model) for comfortable winding and intuitive feel.
“We employed an S-Curve design on all sizes of GSW reels to promote a super-slow oscillation that ensures line is stacked evenly on the spool,” Woods says. “This results in longer casts and fewer line management issues, even when using lighter finesse-size lines. We also added an internal support guide, which means once a fish is hooked and GSW’s drag system goes to work, spool oscillation remains consistent even under heavier drag loads.”
Larger 6000- and 8000-size GSW reels received additional design considerations based on their wider rotors and more powerful drag systems. “Rotor flex – or slight compression from side-to-side – can be a problem in some larger spinning reels,” Woods says. “We designed our 6000 and 8000 GSW models with a strong, rigid, but lightweight aluminum die-cast rotor to eliminate rotor flex and the stress and imbalance that goes along with it.”
Woods says GSW’s unique and aggressive design aesthetic was conceived to look great on any quality spinning rod while also inspiring pride in ownership. “We didn’t stop designing these reels with their internals,” he says. “We recognized that we had a special opportunity to make GSW reels look as special as they perform, and our entire product team, field-test team, and retail partners have been really pleased with the results. GSW reels look like nothing else on the market.”
