Meet the Bassmaster High School All-State Fishing Team

B.A.S.S. announces the 2016 Bassmaster High School All-State Fishing Team! This gallery features the 64 anglers who earned a spot on the 2016 All-State team. They were selected out of more than 200 nominees and represent 36 states. Up to two anglers were chosen per state based on their competition success, leadership and community service. Included on the team but not pictured are Matthew Arndt, New York; Jacob Eaton, Florida; Mateo Gomez, California; and Fisher Young, Mississippi.<p>

Davis is a member of the Mortimer Jordan High School fishing team. Along with a passion for competition and love of fishing, Davis also has a true compassion for helping children. During the summers when his tournament schedule allows, Davis volunteers on weekends at a children’s camp, and his favorite activity is teaching the campers how to fish.

<b>Arizona: Nathan Cummings</b><br>
Cummings is a senior at Centennial High School in Peoria, Ariz., has six tournament wins, and in the 2014/2015 season, Cummings ranked third in Arizona state B.A.S.S. Nation. Cummings also qualified for the National Lake Fork High School Open.

Mazy, a junior from Phoeniz, Ariz., is a two-time Bassmaster High School All-State qualifier. Mazy competes on the Arizona High School B.A.S.S. Nation and finished first at the B.A.S.S Nation High School Western Divisional Championship on Clear Lake.

Colwell is a sophomore at Windsor High School in Windsor, Colo. He is a new member of Windsor High School fishing team and he as already made quite an impact. Colwell has four wins and six Top 5 finishes to his name.

Fitzgerald is a member of the Fountain Valley Junior Bass Club in Salida, Colo. He earned a fourth-place finish at the SAF High School Regional Championship on Clear Lake in California. Fitzgerald was also named a two-time Fountain Valley Junior Bass Club angler of the year.

Childs is the founder and president of the North Oconee Tight Line Titans fishing club. He started the high school team his freshman year, and now the team has more than 15 active members. The Tighline Titans have participated in numerous conservation projects over the last year including water willow growth and a fish conservation project.

Nimrod of De Soto, Kan., would not be deterred when his school would not sponsor a bass fishing team; instead, he took it upon himself to start his own. From there, he has spread his joy and enthusiasm for the sport. He is willing to help anyone learn more about catching fish. Nimrod earned a first-place finish at the Kansas High School state qualifier on Pamona Lake.

Chaney of Lafayette, La., is a member of the David Thibodaux Bass Team. He worked numerous hours to develop a bass fishing team at his high school and this year has worked to encourage other schools to develop teams of their own. He was able to get two other schools to begin clubs as well.

McClosky is a member of the Southern Garrett Bass Slayers out of Swanton, Md. He has six Top 5 finishes, including one win on Deep Creek Lake. McClosky competes weekly throughout the summer in adult tournaments and is currently working on a YouTube fishing show with one of his club members.

He did this not only for his love of the sport and strong desire to compete against other high school anglers, but more importantly to introduce those students to bass fishing who were never given the opportunity he was given. Wallace has four wins and seven Top 5 finishes from the past year.

Duncan of Summit, Miss., is a member of the North Pike Fishing Team. He met with the U.S. Forestry Service biologist in late 2015 and became a volunteer at Okhissa Lake. Duncan learned that the current survey (shocking) only shows shallow fish and the biologist needed more creel information. He is working to collect creel information that will help the biologist make decisions on what the lake needs to grow quality bass.

Schroeder is a sophomore at Lindbergh High School in St. Louis, Mo. In 2015, he fished more than 12 high school bass tournaments. Schroeder finished first in the Missouri State Championship, which qualified him for the conference championship. He also finished first in the Southwest Missouri High School Tournament.

Bates has earned four Top 5 finishes and also won angler of the tear during his second year of tournament fishing with the New Hampshire Junior Bassmasters.

Sosa-Carver is a senior and member of the Mesilla Valley Bass Anglers. He has always been eager to volunteer with any habitat projects, including helping the New Mexico B.A.S.S. Nation Conservation Officer, Earl Conway, establish under water structure on Elephant Butte Lake. Sosa-Carver has also put on several clinics teaching interested individuals how to use fishing equipment and to be productive on the water.

He has created a website with videos sharing tips and tricks from his experiences. Howard also fishes with an adult club and was named angler of the year in 2015, and is the youngest angler to be named angler of the year in the existence of the club.

Fain is always willing to help members of the team by taking them fishing in his boat and sharing tips. With Fain’s leadership, his high school club now has 32 members.

He excels in learning from others and teaching those that want to learn more. Additional to being a boater, he is also an Officer with the Marble Falls High School Fishing Team.

Caldwell of Berkeley Springs, W.V., just started fishing competitively in the last two years, and she placed second in the Fourlocks tournament on the Potomac River. Caldwell has played an important role in the fishing club since its beginning, and she was the first female in the school to fish tournaments.
