Elite pro launches high school tournament

Twenty-one high school bass fishing teams took on Cedar Creek Lake in Kentucky for Elite pro Bradley Roy's inaugural high school tournament.

On Sat., Oct. 5, 2013, 21 teams and their boat captains participated in the 1st Annual Bradley Roy High School Open in Stanford, Ky. Angler’s Outpost & Marine and the Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation organized the day’s activities.

Cedar Creek Lake is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as a
Cedar Creek Lake is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as a “big fish” lake, maintaining a 20-inch size limit. Several bass were caught just under the limit so the results came down to the number of 12 inches or larger bass caught. The winners were Matt Brown and Jeremy Elliott from Corbin High School in Corbin, Ky., with eight fish. The runners-up were Corey Skaggs and Tyler Bohannon from Jefferson County High School Club in Louisville, Ky., with four fish. The Brown/Elliot team caught their fish on wacky-rigged stickbaits and Skaggs/Bohannon caught their fish using several different methods.
Both teams received automatic bids to the 2014 B.A.S.S. High School National Championship. Elite Series pro Bradley Roy and Randall Christopher of Angler’s Outpost & Marine emceed the event. Sponsors for the event included: First Southern National Bank, Abu Garcia, Berkley, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Angler’s Outpost & Marine, Triton, Mercury, Swiftwick Socks, Onyx Outdoor, Taylor Man’s Custom Lures, Elite Pro Custom Baits, Rod Kokoons, X-Stand Treestands, Biobor EB and the Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation. The 2nd annual event was announced with the date and location to be determined.
