DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Fifteen of the 27 student anglers at Georgia’s Alexander High School earned a varsity letter for the 2015 fishing season.
“The Alexander fishing club has been a great addition to our school,” said Stephen Beatty, Alexander High School assistant principal. “They put a lot of time and work in to hone their skills to compete around the state and the Southeast.
“We as an administration felt they deserved the opportunity to earn a varsity letter for their sport.”
To earn their letter, students had to meet Georgia High School Athletic Association grade requirements, compete on the Georgia B.A.S.S. Nation High School Tournament Trail and participate in a conservation event on West Point Lake in LaGrange, Ga.
At the presentation of the letters, the high school fishing program also presented awards for most Top 5 finishes (Jake Mims); most Top 10 finishes (Mims and Noah Rega), biggest fish of the season (Mims), and Rookie of the Year (David Hicks).
The students who earned their letter were Skylar Smith, Wesley Butler, Matt Smeltzer, Reese Kingston, Tanner Crew, Andrew Kell, Chase Ditchkoff, Caleb Bryant, Blake Hunter, David Hicks, Jake Mims, Noah Rega, Gil Crew, Dakota Ward and Trevor Mobley.
