YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The York County High School Anglers, a B.A.S.S. Nation high school club, will host the club’s first B.A.S.S. Open Tournament, May 16 at Lake Wylie.
The tournament is open to all high school and middle school members of the B.A.S.S. Nation High School program or the Student Angler Federation of The Bass Federation.
“Our goal is to get out the word about high school fishing,” said Ellie Carnes, adviser of the York County High School Anglers.
The event will serve as a points tournament for South Carolina B.A.S.S. Nation high school teams to qualify for the Bassmaster High School National Championship.
The cost of the tournament is $25 per boat, with $15 of the fee going to the South Carolina B.A.S.S. Nation to help defray travel expenses for the state teams competing in the national championship.
The high school anglers will be competing for prizes and possibly trophies, according to Carnes. The York County club raised money to buy prizes for the tournament by raffling off a rod and reel at the Bassmaster Classic.
