The Harris County Team held a Kids Fishing Derby on Nov. 18, 2018, and it was open to 25 local kids in kindergarten to fourth grade.
“We had lots of donations of rod and reels and tackleboxes thanks to The Ike Foundation. We also had some rods donated from Zebco so we were able to give more kids than we originally planned for rods. We wanted to show kids the love of fishing that our team has and to make them aware that there is a team at the middle and high school that they can join one day. It turned out better then expected. We had other donations from Reeltree Fishing and The Dugout Bait and Tackle in Kennesaw, Ga.”
“There was a local even center that let us use their facilities. The team helped the kids fish and taught them how to use their new rods. We hope to make this a yearly event to bring as many kids as we can into the outdoors and hopefully make them love fishing as much as the kids on our team. We gave away three awards: Big Fish went to Luke Harman, Most Fish went to Joshua Blackmon and Smallest Fish went to Luke Williamson.”
