LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. — Bassmaster Elite Series pro Bradley Roy never got a chance to fish for his high school team, but he is giving others a chance by holding the first Bradley Roy Kentucky High School Open. The tournament, sanctioned by the B.A.S.S. Nation, will be held Oct. 5 at Cedar Creek Lake.
“Kentucky has sanctioned fishing as a high school sport, so I thought it would be nice to help that out because it is hard to get that going,” the Kentucky pro said.
“I have worked with a few high school teams last year and this year, and I have access to all kinds of stuff to put on a tournament. So I thought the open would be a good way to promote this high school program.”
So the Elite Series pro enlisted the help of Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation president Anthony Roy, who is also his father, to put together the tournament.
“We are trying to use this also as a good way to promote the Nation high school program,” Anthony Roy said.
The tournament is open to all high school teams and is a qualifier for the 2014 B.A.S.S. Nation High School Championship. However, only B.A.S.S. Nation high school clubs can earn an entry into the national championship.
