Danville, Ky. – Bradley Roy’s 5th Annual High School Open was held on Saturday, Sept. 30 on Herrington Lake. A record field of 94 teams from 29 different schools competed for two spots in the 2018 Bassmaster High School National Championship.
The team of Steven Browning and Noah Wagoner of Garrard County won the event with five bass weighing 12.83. They were followed closely by the team of Jordan Smallwood and Evan Fields of Collins/Shelby with 12.78. The runner-up team also had the Big Bass of the event with a 4.87 largemouth.

The team of Browning & Wagoner caught their fish on jigs in deep brush piles while Smallwood and Fields caught over 50 fish on topwaters and crankbaits.
The winning team received plaques, custom rod building kits from Mud Hole Custom Tackle, rod blanks from MHX Rods and baits from Cabin Creek Bait Co. and D&L Tackle. The two top teams also received entry into the aforementioned Bassmaster High School National Championship.
Registration was held Friday night at Angler’s Outpost & Marine in Danville, Ky., with First Southern National Bank feeding the crowd. The teams were addressed by Hank Patton with USA Cares, Stacie Walker of Prym1, Nick Sosby of Snap Fundraising, and Tommy Hall of Campbellsville College. Tournament information was provided to the teams and coaches by Anthony and Bradley Roy.
The event was held out of Chimney Rock Marina on Herrington Lake, a 2,335-acre lake situated in Mercer, Garrard, and Boyle Counties. It was the fourth year the event was held on the fishery. Roy announced the fishery would be the site of the 2018 event as well with a probable date of Oct. 6.
Event supporters included; Angler’s Outpost & Marine, Mud Hole Custom Tackle, MHX Rods, First Southern National Bank, Cabin Creek Bait Co., D&L Tackle, USA Cares, Whitetail Heaven Outfitters, Prym1, Shimano, The Leash, Triton Boats, T-H Marine and Mercury Marine.
