In case you haven't heard, Melissa's team, Michigan District 2, won the Big League Softball World Series. They defeated Puerto Rico 4-0.
The tournament was composed of 10 of the best teams in the nation and from around the world. Six were from the United States and another four from Canada, the Philippines, Poland and Puerto Rico. That's a prestigious group of softball teams.
Six of our players — including Melissa — had hits. (Alyssa Foy had two.) It was a real team effort. Our defense didn't get to show much of their stuff, though, thanks to our pitcher, Jackie Bowe. She threw strikeout after strikeout after strikeout while allowing only two hits — one double and one single. She had one heck of a game.
Anyway, it was a good night for the hometown folks. Now it's time for me to get some sleep so I can fish tomorrow. I'll write again after the tournament.
