WAYNESBURG, Ky. — Mason Moore is only in the 10th grade, but he’s setting himself up to be a star in the bass fishing world.
Moore competed in 13 tournaments in 2015, winning four of them and placing in the Top 5 in 11 of them. His success on the tournament circuits, combined with his volunteer efforts, earned him a spot on the exclusive 2016 Bassmaster High School All-American team.
“As anyone who fishes knows, an eight-hour fishing day can be mentally grueling,” said Nathan Moore, Mason’s father. “Mason remains intent and determined during the slow periods of fishing, knowing that every bite counts. He keeps a bait in the water from start to finish in each tournament.”
When he’s not competing with the Lincoln County High School fishing team, Moore plays on the school’s baseball team. He also volunteered his time last summer as a junior counselor at Camp Can Do, a camp for children with special needs.
Moore has qualified for the 2016 Costa Bassmaster High School National Championship and the USA Bassin Next Generation Championship, both this summer.
Moore has maintained a 3.86 GPA while participating in his extracurricular activities. He is currently researching which college he’d like to attend, basing much of his decision on the quality of the bass fishing program at the school.
