GRIFFIN, Ga. — Cody Stahl got the fishing team started at his high school, led it to state victory twice and now is headed to the college level with those notches of experience on his belt.
The CrossPointe Christian Academy graduate is also one of only 12 young anglers selected for the 2016 Bassmaster High School All-American team.
“I’ve gotten to know Cody through seeing him at various tournaments,” said John Cox, a boat captain in the Georgia B.A.S.S. High School Nation.
“Although he is usually the winner, he is the most humble, polite and considerate young man I’ve ever met. When he doesn’t win, he is the first to go shake the hands of the winners.”
Stahl has won five high school tournaments in the past year and has placed second in two. Those wins came at a time when he was juggling varsity football, varsity baseball, student council activities and his studies for his senior year of high school. He has also competed in multiple local tournaments with his father during this time, and done volunteer work with the Georgia B.A.S.S. Nation to re-establish native habitat.
“Beyond the formal activities that Cody has been involved in, Cody is a natural leader,” said Kim Rogers, the head of school at CrossPointe.
“He is thoughtful in his ways, helpful in his actions, polite in his demeanor and passionate in his pursuits.”
Stahl will be joining the varsity fishing team at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) on scholarship this fall.
Next month, Stahl will join 11 other top young anglers at the 2016 Bassmaster High School All-American Tournament, held in conjunction with BASSfest in Oklahoma. Each of the high school students will fish in a boat with a Bassmaster Elite Series pro and weigh in on the Bassmaster stage.
