The 2021 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by HUK was held in Fort Worth, Texas on Lake Ray Roberts, and for good reason.
There’s no shortage of interesting places to explore in the area.
Ray Roberts Lake State Park
The first is Lake Ray Roberts itself and the state park nestled on its banks. There’s enough activities for a day or weekend adventure here. You can start on a section of the 20 mile multiuse trail from Ray Roberts Dam to Lake Lewisville or the Johnson Branch trail.
You can hike, bike or ride horses on the multiuse trails. There’s also geocaching, backpacking, swimming, paddling and fishing at Ray Roberts Lake State Park.
There are several areas to camp, but you have to reserve your spot online. If you’re not feeling a campsite though, you can always stay at the Lone Star Lodge.
Both the Lake Ray Roberts Marina and Lone Star Lodge Marina offer boat rentals and access to the beautiful lake views and fun activities.
Trinity Trails
100+ miles of trails, waterfalls, places to paddle, playgrounds and a variety of events make the Trinity Trails a must-see attraction.
Between the Trinity River and Fort Worth Zoo, you can visit Trinity Park for some geocaching, nature watching at the duck pond or ride the miniature train.
A fan favorite is the Airfield Falls Trailhead and Conservation Park.
You can check out Marine Creek Lake and Trails. The 6-mile trail loop is open for biking and hiking. There’s also a paddling launch for kayaks, SUPs and canoes. Or, you can just take in the views from the boardwalk.
Eagle Mountain Lake
Located in the West Fork of the Trinity River, Eagle Mountain Lake is home to excellent fishing. You can find largemouth bass, spotted bass, catfish, white crappie and white bass here.
Echo Lake Park
Here you’ll find a mix of activities. There’s hiking and fishing, multiple playgrounds, baseball and softball fields, basketball courts and more at Echo Lake Park. You can wet a hook or start a pick up game of basketball, or both!
Museums, art galleries, antiques and living history
One of the best parts of traveling is exploring local culture and history. There’s no shortage of that in the cities surrounding Fort Worth.
Stop by the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site or check out the various historical landmarks in Collinsville.
Head over to Denton for museums and art galleries or Gainesville for antique shops and the zoo.
The area also boasts delicious local eats and friendly faces!
