BassGold.com accurately predicted the winning patterns and weights of the Bassmaster Classic and the first Bassmaster Elite Series event, something The Bassmasters host Mark Zona calls “eerie.” (The data from the Bassmaster Elite Series Power-Pole Slam on Lake Okeechobee isn’t in yet.)
At the 2012 Bassmaster Classic on the Red River in February, BassGold showed that past winners and high finishers were more likely to fish Pool 5 first and Pool 4 second. It also showed they would throw soft plastic baits in BassGold’s “tube/grub/craw” category around wood and underwater vegetation, and that 17 pounds per day (51 pounds total) would win.
What happened? Winner Chris Lane fished exactly that cover in Pools 4 and 5 with a tube and craw, and weighed in 51 pounds, 6 ounces.
A few weeks later, when Elite Series pros hit Florida for the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series St. Johns River Showdown, BassGold predicted correctly again. The patterning tool showed that past winners and high finishers would fish underwater vegetation and spawning beds along the shoreline mostly with worms, a category in BassGold that includes Yamamoto Senko-like lures. It indicated that the winning weight would be around 70 pounds.
What happened? Alton Jones won that event by fishing spawning beds in vegetation with a Senko-like Yum Dinger, and weighed in 75 pounds, 9 ounces.
