What is it?
Megabass Spark Shad
What does it do?
The Megabass Spark Shad is a single swimbait great for shallow and deep water, and it comes in three different sizes. Megabass has introduced the 3-, 4- and 5-inch versions of their Spark Shad swimbait. This swimbait can be rigged on a jig head with an exposed hook, a screwlock belly weighted hook, and is even thick enough to easily attach a stinger treble hook.
What sets it apart?
The fin design on the Spark Shad allows this swimbait to be retrieved faster than others without losing the desired action. The side fins on the Spark Shad keep the swimbait balanced and upright while the rear fin on the under side keeps the paddle tail thumping. The Spark Shad features a thick and wide profile while tapering to a skinny tail, which allows the paddle tail more action than those with thicker tail segments.
Edwin Evers used the Spark Shad en route to his BASSfest win on Kentucky Lake during the 2015 season. The design of the swimbait’s body gives it more lift than others allowing you to fish it slower in shallower water without getting hung up frequently.
How do I use it?
This swimbait can be used during every phase that a bass goes through. It is obviously better when bass are chasing large baitfish, but because it can be retrieved at numerous speeds it is effective. The 3- and 4-inch Spark Shads can be great pieces for an Alabama Rig during the winter months. A finesse approach that Chris Zaldain utilized at Lake Havasu was throwing a smaller Spark Shad on a Megabass Okashira Screw head, which features a prop blade and gives the presentation more flash than just a normal swimbait.
