Gear Review: Columbia Ultimate Catch Zero Long Sleeve Hybrid Shirt

What is it?

Columbia Ultimate Catch Zero Long Sleeve Hybrid Shirt

What sets it apart?

When I spoke with Columbia’s PFG Marketing Manager Brent Brauner at ICAST 2019, he described the company’s effort to offer women anglers options to the traditional route of selecting men’s fishing clothing in smaller sizes. The Ultimate Catch Zero Long Sleeve Hybrid Shirt exemplifies this theme with a flattering design that features a more feminine hem cut, a lower profile collar and a fully concealed snap-front.

How do I use it?

Furthering the stylish intent, the Ultimate Catch Zero Long Sleeve Hybrid Shirt includes scooped cuffs for maximum sun coverage over the hands, thumbholes for a secure fit and twin chest pockets with hidden zipper tracks. Other details include Omni-Shade UPF 50 sun protection, Omni-Freeze ZERO sweat-activated super cooling, Omni-Wick, reflective detail for low-light safety, Columbia’s traditional rod hold with hook-and-loop closure and a handy sunglass cleaning patch, located at the inside corner of the right side.

How much?

$90

Angler’s insight:

Columbia’s design effort is commendable, both in form and function. My wife, who will definitely tell me if she does not like something, gave this shirt high marks for comfort, style and practicality. To the latter point, I noticed a cool feature that you may not initially spot — a zippered pocket on the lower right. Gracefully concealed, like the two chest pockets, this spot is ideal for car keys, a smartphone or other weighty items that may be cumbersome in the upper pockets.
