What sets it apart?

The inReach Mini fits into the palm of your hand and is a lightweight and compact option for off-the-grid communication. This device allows you to send SOS alerts any time and stay in touch with loved ones while out of service, with two-way communication abilities. Share real-time location updates with those at home so they can track your trip progress or ping your device if needed. Or, pull up real-time weather updates based on your current location. In addition to all of that, you can access maps and aerial imagery via the application on your phone. The battery on the device is built to last, with 90 hours of use (when using location sharing), or 24 days in power-save mode. This is the ultimate communication device and a must-have!

How do I use it?

To have the best experience with your inReach Mini, you’ll have to download the Garmin Earthmate phone application. In order to have two-way communication and share real-time location updates, you’ll have to pay for an inReach Satellite Communication plan. There are monthly and annual subscription options, with flexibility in coverage based on your needs.

How much?

Allyson’s insight:

I love my Garmin inReach Mini. It gives me peace of mind when heading into the backcountry or on long road trips where service might be spotty. The interface is easy to learn, and I love the flexibility in the communication plans. I always keep my inReach Mini on my backpack strap (right on my shoulder), so it’s easy to access in an emergency situation. While there are other options for SOS devices, the two-way communication abilities, location sharing and live weather updates can’t be beat!
