Gear review: MPOWERD Luci Pro Series Inflatable Solar Charger & Lantern

Keep your phone and lantern charged during camping trips with the power of the sun.

What is it?

The MPOWERD Luci Pro Series Inflatable Solar Charger and Lantern is a portable, lightweight, solar-powered lantern and charging device. It is designed to charge your devices and provide light on your adventures, charging itself constantly along the way so you will never be without power.

What sets it apart?

If you spend a lot of time hiking, camping or backpacking in remote areas, this is a great product to carry in your pack. It is ultra-lightweight, at 6.1 ounces, and small when compressed, at just 1 inch thick, so you won’t even notice it is with you. It is also made of a durable and waterproof material to withstand the elements when clipped to the outside of your backpack. Unlike a traditional portable charger, you do not need to remember to charge it before your adventure. The MPOWERD product charges on the go with a small solar panel. It is also inflatable and is able to turn into a light source or lantern. The inflatable design also makes it easy to charge your devices while at camp.

How do I use it?

Before your first adventure, always test out new products. This product can be charged via a power source in your home, which takes two to three hours. It can also be charged via the solar panel, which takes 14 hours. To inflate, simply blow into the inflate valve. From there you can test the lantern by using the button. To charge a device, plug your cord into the USB port and plug in your device. After use, deflate and attach it to your backpack.

Joanna’s insight:

Living in sunny Colorado, this product is something I carry on every adventure as a backup power source. It is so small and lightweight that I don’t even notice it is clipped to my backpack. I let it charge on the go, and because we do have plenty of sunlight, it is always charged in case of emergency. It is also on my must-have list for backpacking. It is so lightweight compared to carrying a traditional power source and a light source, and it will recharge during the day while you hike. So far it has been on a year’s worth of hikes and backpacking trips with me, all clipped to the outside of my pack, and is still showing no signs of wear and tear. My only disclosure would be that I do live somewhere with a lot of sunshine — over 300 days per year as an estimate. I imagine if you live in a less sunny region it may not be as practical to recharge via sunlight throughout your daytime hiking.
