Minnesota Bass Series visited Horseshoe Chain in central Minnesota for our first event of the season.
Horseshoe Chain is a group of 14 lakes connected by the Sauk River. Heavy rain showers this spring have had the lakes flooding and are considered high water. The water had dropped 30” from high point and was near normal spring highs. The local authorities had the lake under no wake for the event, which limited the amount of water that anglers were willing to travel to.
Both Smallmouth and Largemouth were going to be a factor. Smallmouth were just finishing up the spawn and Largemouth were at all stages of spawn, with many being done and actively feeding.
The weather was beautiful with upper 70s, clear skies, and a light breezy. The fish were also biting, with many teams catching a lot of fish, but struggling to find fish in the 3+ range. Our top team of Ron Mehr and Joe Wambeke brought in 16.97# of largemouth, winning the tiebreaker with Aaron Grefsrud and Kevin Carver, also having 16.97#.
Big bass honors went to Tom Petron and Jaxon Hill with a 4.59# Largemouth.
